F.A.Q.s
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
Are
all Physicians Qualified to Practice Anti-ageing Medicine with
Natural Hormone Balancing? No, they are not. Only those physicians
who have spent the extra time reading and attending lectures,
and have made a personal effort to study Anti-ageing Medicine
are qualified. There is Board Certification in this new specialty
as well as membership in national Anti-ageing Associations. The
entire field of Anti-ageing Medicine, with its emphasis on holistic
health, nutrition, exercise, and natural hormone balancing, is
a subject not taught in routine medical school curriculums.
Can I Plan my own Anti-ageing Programme
with Natural Hormone Balance by Obtaining Hormone and Nutrition
Support from a Health Food Store? No. For the programme to
be optimally effective, you need to obtain baseline blood levels,
obtain pharmaceutical-grade natural hormones and nutraceuticals
from a registered compounding pharmacy, and be prescribed appropriate
doses by a physician knowledgeable in Anti-ageing Medicine, and
Natural Hormone Balancing (NHB).
Will Health Insurance Cover my Expense
for an Anti-ageing NHB Programme? No. Health insurance will
not cover preventative medicine or, in many cases, natural products,
despite the fact that they are probably better for you than the
synthetics. However, diagnostic codes can be provided for laboratory
work, and a receipt will be supplied that you can attempt to submit
to your insurance.
What is Hormone Management, and How Does
it Work? Hormone management is a method of optimizing, through
supplementation, the hormones that are no longer being adequately
produced by the body. People are genetically programmed to produce,
at a subsequent time in their life, a lesser amount of hormones.
That includes the pituitary, thyroid, adrenal glands, and sex
glands. The goal of natural hormone balancing is to return the
hormone levels to that of approximately 30 years of age. This
is the age when our immune systems are generally the strongest,
our metabolism is most efficient, and we can build muscle faster
than fat.
What about DHEA and Human Growth Hormone?
DHEA is a hormone that is produced naturally in the body; however,
levels dramatically decrease with age - from about 30 onwards.
It is sometimes referred to as "the Mother Hormone"
because it is a source ingredient for other hormones and is regarded
as being the hormone of youth because levels are at their peak
in both men and women during early adulthood. Human growth hormone
(HGH) is felt to be the body's master hormone secreted by the
pituitary gland. At around the age of 30, decreasing amounts of
HGH are secreted, which means, other hormones do not get the message
to function, and the symptoms of physical decline begin to surface.
Most Anti-ageing specialists believe that by returning HGH to
the optimal level and bringing back all other hormones to their
balanced state, the body will retain its vitality and youth. However,
it should be remembered that no hormone stands alone, and total
hormone supplementation is ideal with the addition of optimal
nutrition and exercise.
I have Heard That HGH is Expensive and
Requires an Injection. Can I Take "Oral Secretagogues"
that Contain Amino Acids to Boost my Hormone Levels? Studies
have shown that oral HGH releasers, such as that offered by HB
Health, containing amino acids, stimulate the body's production
of HGH and do increase biomarker levels of HGH by up to 30%. For
many people, especially younger patients, this level is enough,
but older patients usually need increases of at least 100%.
Is Anti-ageing Medicine Safe? HB Health
will be happy to provide a reference list of current medical articles
and journals that support the safety and effectiveness of this
therapy.
How Long Before You Actually See Results?
While this varies with each individual, some people feel results
within days, but most can expect to notice some results from 3
to 6 months after beginning hormone management. Often, men will
see physical manifestations, such as increased muscle mass, hair
growth, etc. Women may notice an improvement in their energy,
and if they were hormonal, will feel less so.
How Long Do I Have To Be On These Therapies,
and What Will Happen If I Stop The Programme? You should give
your programme at least 6 months to see benefits, as your body
needs that much time to heal and rebuild. You can stay on the
programme for as long as you want to continue to optimize your
health. From time to time, you may wish to cycle and stop the
programme for a while, but discontinuing the programme will lose
the benefits of optimal hormone replacement.
At What Age Should a Person Start a Programme?
Optimal nutrition and exercise are recommended at every age. A
person does not need to begin hormone replacement until he/she
shows signs of physical deterioration or biochemical evidence
of diminished hormone production. This usually occurs in the mid-30's
or, on rare occasions, sooner. Some of this is dependent upon
things such as a person¹s exposure to environmental toxins,
previous illnesses, family genetics, and personal habits. The
HB Health comprehensive medical evaluation with complete blood
work helps to determine each person's needs.
Will Natural Hormone Balancing Interfere
with Currently Prescribed Medicines? Generally not. However,
it is preferred that information be provided about all medicines
that are being taken, in order to make sure that there is no conflict
or contra-indications.
How Many Pills Will I Have to Take Each
Day? This depends on your medical, nutritional and hormone
needs and will be fully explained by our specialists. We recognize
that some individuals don't like to take many pills, and we have
devised our anti-ageing programmes with this in mind.
